Intro

Hello, and welcome to Unraveling Privilege. This blog is meant to be a place to collect what I’ve learned about various activism branches over the past decade, collating information about intersectionality somewhere people can earnestly engage. It is often said that we as white Americans should not rely on black people to explain racism, that we as cishet people should not rely on queer people to explain homophobia and transphobia, and so on. Thus, this is a place for those with privilege who want to work towards a better world for all to learn how various missing privileges intersect to make life harder for others.

To hopefully avoid becoming too heavy, this space will also include chances to engage with art and joy, lifting our spirits with craft while continuing to engage with difficult topics. The first such art engagement will be a Knit Along looking to raise funds for the National Women’s Law Center. More details will be posted Saturday, March 1, and cast-on day will be Saturday, March 8!

Finally, a closing note. I’m not perfect (more on this phrase and its sometimes problematic usage in a later post). I will make mistakes, incorrect assumptions, and misinterpretations. But I believe overall this blog can be a positive force. So I ask that when I do make a mistake, you assume ignorance over malice and give me the opportunity to grow and improve. None of us will ever be perfect, but we can continue to learn and help each other even in our imperfection.
